Red Shirt Comics to host its first-ever Halloween Comic Fest in Port Jeff

|

Halloween is approaching fast, and Red Shirt Comics of Port Jeff is giving you that reason you’ve been needing to dress up ahead of time.

On Oct. 28, the comic book shop will be hosting its first-ever Halloween Comic Fest, which will include giveaways, a costume contest, and arts and crafts for children.

“It’s similar to Free Comic Book Day, a national [event] for comic retailers,” said the owner of the fledgling comic book store at 322 Main Street, Josh Darbee.

Darbee will be giving away Halloween-oriented comics like Casper the Friendly Ghost and Batman: Night of the Monster Men.

The biggest draw, as mentioned, is the costume contest with a chance to win a $50 gift certificate.

There will be two age groups: 12 and under, and 13 and up.

Red Shirt Comics will take your photo and voting will take place online. Winners will be announced on Halloween.

“[I am having the event] to keep the interest going,” said Darbee, who’s considering dressing up as one of Batman’s foes, Two-Face. “Halloween has a lot similar themes as comic stores, with the fantasy element.”

Halloween Comic Fest will run from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with raffle and auction prizes.
