Registration opens for YMCA 5K race series; the first is April 8

|

The YMCA of Long Island has announced that registration for the 2018 Run for a Cause: YMCA 5K Series has opened.

The series of three 5K run/walks takes place between April and June at Y’s across Suffolk County, including the local Great South Bay location in Bay Shore, as well as Patchogue and Huntington.

The series kicks off April 8 with the Patchogue Family YMCA race at ShoreFront Park, benefitting the Y’s Diabetes Prevention Program in honor of Brendan Barrett of the Sayville Running Company.

The second installment of the series, at the Huntington YMCA on April 22, raises funds to support child abuse awareness, protection, and recovery programs, and services for children in need.

The final event will be held at the Great South Bay YMCA facility on June 2, with proceeds benefiting cancer survivors through financial assistance.

The final event will also pay tribute to Shardé Lamneck, who passed away after a battle with breast cancer back in September, according to the YMCA of Long Island.

Lamneck worked as the Director of Membership Sales & Engagement at Great South Bay YMCA.

“This is a great opportunity for the YMCA of Long Island to unite each of our branches. Participating in these events that promote healthy living and social responsibility, is at the core of our mission,” said Anne Brigis, CEO and president of the YMCA of Long Island.

“Bringing the community together for a series of events is a great way to promote awareness for the three causes that are very close to our hearts. Whether you walk or run, we encourage everyone to get involved in this series and add these events to your calendar.”
