Report: Islanders lose out on Nazem Kadri; the UFA center will sign with Flames

|

The Islanders are out of the Nazem Kadri sweepstakes, according to multiple reports.

NHL reporter and former Isles goalie Kevin Weekes tweeted today the marquee free-agent center will be signing with the Flames.

Yahoo Sports reports the 31-year-old is signing a “long-term deal” with the Flames. The signing hasn’t been made official yet.

Kadri is coming off a career year, posting 87 points (28 goals, 59 assists) and a Stanley Cup victory with the Colorado Avalanche.

The Islanders reportedly made a run at Kadri this offseason, with some thinking he was going to end up on the island.

“I spoke to two opposing GMs who believe (Kadri) is signing with the Islanders,” sports talk radio host Jason Gregor reported. “If you go back to last year as you recall, Kyle Palmieri and Anthony Beauvillier signed on Sept. 1.”

This is a breaking news story. Check back for more details as they emerge.
