Rockville Centre Police Department moves into a new station on Maple Avenue

|

Rockville Centre police officers and civilian employees have moved into the the police department’s new headquarters after breaking ground on construction over a year ago.

On Wednesday, the department began operating out of 142 Maple Ave. in the old Rockville Centre Municipal Water Department building. The 10,000-square-foot station features a dispatch center, designated training space and a secured booking area.

“This new station will be able to support our Police Department well into the future,” Police Commissioner James Vafeades said. “I would like to thank Mayor Murray, our Board of Trustees, and Village Administrator Nancy Howard for their hard work in making this come to fruition and providing our police department with the necessary tools to keep Rockville Centre one of the safest communities in the state.”

The new and improved Rockville Centre Police Department headquarters — work home to 56 police officers and 20 civilian workers — includes a new drive-in booking area, alongside three holding cells through a fenced-in area, providing an extra layer of security.

In addition, the station offers a new training room, 15 advanced screens at the front desk for surveillance monitoring, a 90-foot antenna for better radio communications, a fitness room, a new armory room, a larger and enhanced communications center and a motorized perimeter fence for the entire property.

The station’s phone number remains the same, 516.766.1500.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house are planned for early this summer.

“Our officers play a vital role here in Rockville Centre,” Mayor Francis X. Murray said. “We knew that while our village continues to grow, our police headquarters needed to grow and advance with it. My administration worked diligently to keep costs low, while providing the essential tools our officers deserve and need to keep Rockville Centre a safe place to live, work and raise a family.”
