Nearly 400 hungry meat lovers attended the Sayville Rotary Club‘s 68th annual Beefsteak fundraiser cookout Thursday evening at the Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville.
Attendees feasted on grilled filet mignon, clams and cold beer and soda, and then lined up for dessert at Roxy’s Ice Cream Truck. Rotary Club member and social media Director Andy Wittman said some of the event’s success was due to the fact that the club offered advanced online ticket sales for the first time.
About 15% of the tickets sold for Beefsteak were purchased online, Wittman said. Early estimates indicate that about 85% of the online ticket sales came from the 30-50 age group.
“It made the check-in process much faster,” Wittman said. “Piggybacking on the success of the online sales was the success of attracting a younger crowd.”
