Notre Dame quarterback Jack Coan passed for a game-tying two-point conversion, and then led the offense on a game-winning, 45-yard field goal drive Saturday night as the Irish took down Virginia Tech, 32-29, on the road.
The Sayville great completed a 4-yard touchdown pass to receiver Avery Davis with 2:26 remaining to close Virginia Tech’s lead to 29-27, and then found Kevin Austin Jr. for the two-point conversion after a wild scramble outside the pocket.
On the game-winning drive, Coan completed 2 of 3 three passes for 35 yards, helping march the Irish from its own 25 to Virginia Tech’s 30-yard line. Jonathan Doerer kicked a 48-yard field goal with 17 seconds remaining.
Coan completed 9 of 12 passes for 108 yards. No. 14 Notre Dame is now 5-1, bouncing back from last week’s loss to 24-13 to No. 5 Cincinnati.
