SBU women’s lax program makes history as unanimous No. 1 in NCAA

|

History has been made by the Stony Brook University’s women’s lacrosse team.

For the first time ever, the team has been ranked No. 1 in the nation across all three major polls.

The Seawolves claimed the top spot after a 16-3 victory over No. 20 Denver at Kenneth LaValle Stadium this past Sunday. With the win, SBU is now 3-0 to start the 2018 season.

The next day following the victory, Stony Brook was announced as the NCAA’s best team by Inside LacrosseUS Lacrosse Magazine, and the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association.

But, the high rankings haven’t phased Stony Brook’s head coach Joe Spallina.

“I have far more interest in being No. 1 in late May,” he told the Stony Brook Statesman. “I’m also okay with us being No. 1 tomorrow forward. That’s what I tell them all the time, that it’s all about us.”
