A 12-year-old male student has been arrested by Suffolk County Police for stabbing a 13-year-old fellow student at Lindenhurst Middle School on Monday, March 27, at 12:30 p.m.
According to authorities, the two students were involved in an altercation in a second-floor hallway when the 12-year-old male used a six-inch knife to stab the victim in the leg.
“He lost a lot of blood,” said Suffolk County Police Deputy Inspector Sean Beran at a press conference Monday afternoon outside of the middle school. “The wound is up in his leg, towards his groin.”
Fortunately, a school security staff member was on hand to apply a tourniquet to the victim’s leg before a police officer arrived to apply a second tourniquet. The victim was then airlifted via helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he is said to be in critical but stable condition.
The 12-year-old attacker, whose name has not been released, was arrested by Suffolk County Police and charged with juvenile delinquency. The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact First Squad Detectives.
The Lindenhurst Middle School, located at 350 North Wellwood Ave., has not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
