Setauket Patriots plan third ‘Trumpalozza’ car parade through Port Jefferson

|

The Setauket Patriots, a Facebook group advocating for the re-election of President Donald Trump, is organizing its third “Trumpalozza” parade through Port Jefferson this Saturday.

The route begins at the Port Jeff LIRR station at 11 a.m. and runs through Stony Brook, St. James, Nesconset, Lake Grove, Centereach, Selden, Coram and loops back to Port Jefferson. Click here to see the full path.

“We’ll be traveling at 20 mph to keep the groups together, please don’t cover your license plates and all social distancing rules are in effect as always as per Gov. Cuomo,” reads a post about the car parade from the Setauket Patriots.

The group held a similar parade earlier this month, both without receiving permits from the Village of Port Jefferson.

The village took to Facebook to share its concerns about the upcoming outing:

“The Village is aware that the ‘Setauket Patriots’ group plans to parade their vehicles and flags through our Village again this weekend without a permit to do so. Please know that the Village government does not in any way condone lawless or disrespectful behavior within our village, regardless of any content or message that any group may convey. The Village does not have authority to stop moving vehicles or issue citations for violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law and so we continue to coordinate with Suffolk County Police and request that they enforce the VTL as well as the social distancing and mask orders under NY Pause. Village Code Enforcement Officers will be present to ensure the general safety of the public, including separating pedestrians from moving vehicles and monitoring noise levels when possible. Village Code Enforcement Officers will cite any persons violating the Village Code. Suffolk County Police will be in the Village throughout the day and we expect that they will take any and all enforcement actions as they see necessary. The Village government shares your concern about these events and wants you to know that we are working with all appropriate authorities and doing what we can to return to the quality of life that we are used to in our Village.”
