Seventh Street Cafe owners hanging up aprons after 33 years in Garden City

|

After 33 years as a cornerstone of Garden City’s dining scene, Seventh Street Cafe will serve its final meals under longtime owners Victor and Brooke Scotto later this month. The couple has decided to retire on Christmas Eve.

The announcement was made on Facebook on Dec. 7, the anniversary of the restaurant’s original opening in 1992.

The Scottos said they had expected to remain in the business indefinitely, but the restaurant industry has changed significantly in recent years. They also said when an unexpected offer to buy the business came earlier this year, the couple decided it was the right moment.

With retirement ahead, the Scottos say they plan to spend extended periods in Italy, a place they visit regularly, especially the island of Ischia, where they have longtime friends.

Brooke says she has no idea what the new owners have planned for the restaurant.
