Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon this holiday season has beefed up enforcement efforts aimed at illegal parking in handicap spaces across Suffolk.
Until New Year’s Day, all deputy sheriffs will direct additional enforcement efforts toward ticketing drivers who park in spots designated for motorists with handicapped parking permits.
“The purpose of this enforcement is to act as a deterrent to the illegal use of handicap parking spots, which creates a particular hardship, especially during the holiday season, for the citizens of Suffolk County who actually have need of such spaces,” Toulon explained.
The sheriff’s office encourages citizens to report illegal parking in handicap parking spaces by taking a photo and emailing it to SheriffTips@suffolkcountyny.gov. Violators can be fined up to $150.
