Once again, Long Island MacArthur Airport is a nominee for the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Small Airport.
The Islip airport looks to move up from its No. 6 ranking in last year’s awards.
“We are honored to be one of the 15 airports selected by a panel of experts,” Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter said. “We are hoping our loyal base of travelers and the Long Island community will vote each day.”
The nominees were released this week and voting will continue through noon on Feb. 1. USA Today will announce the winners on Feb. 12.

All voting is digital via the 10Best website, and members of the public may cast one vote each day.
10Best describes the nominated facilities as being “smaller, friendlier airports” that “excel with their commercial flight offerings, easy access and amenities.” MacArthur is lauded on the site as an alternative for travelers “wishing to avoid the big, crowded New York area airports (JFK and LaGuardia) will find a peaceful alternative in the town of Islip.”
The small airport category includes airports with fewer than 10 million passengers each year. Owned and operated by the Town of Islip, MacArthur Airport serves 1.6 million passengers annually — on flights with three major U.S. domestic air carriers: American Airlines, Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines.
“MacArthur Airport is working hard to provide an excellent customer experience,” Islip Aviation Commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken said. “It’s gratifying that the experts participating in the USA Today 10Best Awards recognize MacArthur’s ability to conveniently serve New York travelers.”
