Forget the eggs, bread and milk.
Ahead of the approaching winter storm, some Long Islanders were stocking up on a different kind of necessity — cannabis.
At Strain Stars in Farmingdale, customers lined up Saturday afternoon for green and gummies before the forecasted snow hit.
The parking lot was packed, spots were hard to come by, and at one point the line stretched out the front door.
“It’s our milk and eggs,” said Collin of Glen Cove, laughing as he waited outside the Route 110 dispensary.
Collin and his buddy James, who both declined to share their last names, stopped in to pick up what they called their “necessities.” They weren’t alone.
“They’re talking about closing stuff on Monday, so if I’m going to be trapped at home, I might as well prepare,” said Victor Calise of West Babylon. “If you’re stuck at home, why not? Throw on a movie and get a little high.”
“You always have to stock up,” added Charlie of Levittown, leaving the store with a bag in hand. “A couple of days snowed in — you don’t want to go stir-crazy in the house.”
Collin won’t have that problem. He said he still has to work Sunday and Monday, regardless of the weather, but now has something to look forward to when he clocks out.
“It’s nice to have something to relax you when you get home,” he said with a smile.
“Hunker down, grab a blanket, get cozy and call it a day,” James said. “A little something from here makes it a perfect night.”
“Now that it’s legal, you wouldn’t want to be caught without it, especially if you need it for a specific reason,” Calise added.
Justin of Bethpage, who also declined to share his last name, said his reason was simple.
“It’s for my mental health,” he said.
