Spooky Walk at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck to begin its 31st run this weekend

|

With Halloween right around the corner, Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck in Center Moriches is gearing up to host its 31st annual Spooky Walk, a volunteer-run fundraiser for the camp for children with special needs.

The event starts tomorrow from 7-9 p.m. at Camp Pa-QuaTuck.

Attendees begin Long Island’s longest-lasting haunted walk through one of three trails in the woods. There is also a walk around a lake and four different themed buildings. This year’s themes include “Living Hell Hospital,” “Alice in Zombieland,” “Camper’s Nightmare” and more.

“Some kids cry because they don’t want to leave,” said Marielle Frey, a Spooky Walk organizer. “They get experiences they can’t get anywhere else.”

The 45-minute Spooky Walk has about 300 volunteers a night.

Guests who would like to sit back from the haunted house can enjoy the food at a tent serving pretzels, hamburgers, sausage and peppers and more. Local brewers have also donated beer for purchase for adults 21 and older, while guests can dance to music played by a volunteer DJ.

“Nobody makes a penny on this except the camp,” said Marcella Weiss, Spooky Walk’s organizer.

Last year, the event raised $200,000 for the camp. The goal this year is to raise even more for the camp, where children with disabilities have fun in the pool, bouncy house, as well as enjoy music groups and plays.

Tickets for the walk, which runs on Oct. 18, 19, 25 and 26, from 7-9 p.m., cost $20.
