St. Joseph’s College will begin offering studio art degree in Patchogue

St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue will start offering a bachelor’s degree in studio art this fall, the school announced Wednesday.

In the past, St. Joseph’s had only offered studio art as an 18-credit minor.

Students in the new, 45-credit program will be able to choose from concentrations in painting, digital design, printmaking, ceramics and crafts.

“With the addition of the B.A. in Studio Art, we are offering students a chance to develop their artistic skills and prepare for creative career opportunities,” said Dawn Lee, an associate professor and chairperson of the Department of Art at SJC Long Island. “The College and its students look forward to becoming an active part of Long Island’s art community.”

St. Joseph’s will offer courses in graphic design, web design, drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics and crafts will be taught in MAC labs, spacious 2D studios and darkrooms by a talented faculty of practicing artists and scholars, reads an announcement about the new degree.

The studio art students will also have access to online and hybrid course.

A studio art degree is designed to prepare students for career choices that include, among many others, advertising, graphic design, teaching and illustration.
