Stony Brook captain signs deal with Seattle Seahawks

|

Gavin Heslop, the 2019 senior captain for Stony Brook University’s football team, inked a deal with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent hours after the 2020 NFL Draft ended on Saturday.

“This is a dream come true for me,” Heslop told Stony Brook Athletics in an interview. “All of the hard work over the past five years at Stony Brook has paid off. I could not be more excited for this opportunity.”

This season Heslop impressed scouts after posting 52 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and two blocked kicks. He also scored a touchdown off of a fumble recovery.

The Yonkers native aims to become the fifth Seawolf to be activated to an NFL roster. Atlanta Falcons safety Chris Cooper was the latest SBU alum to reach that feat last season.

Other Seawolves to make NFL regular season rosters include Will Tye (2015), linebacker Victor Ochi (2016), and offensive linemen Timon Parris (2018).
