Stony Brook Holiday Festival set for Dec. 7

|

Stony Brook Village will ring in the season next month with the return of the Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s Holiday Festival, a longstanding community tradition now in its 46th year.

Set for Sunday, Dec. 7, from noon to 6 p.m., the free festival will feature special performances, children’s activities and the annual lighting of the Holiday Tree on the Village Green.

The entertainment lineup opens at the Stony Brook Post Office with the School of Rock “Rock n’ Roll” Choir at 1 p.m., followed by the St. James Junior Choir at 1:30 p.m. Santa Claus is expected to arrive at 2 p.m. and will pose for photos with children until 4:45 p.m.

A special red “Mail for Santa” mailbox at the Post Office will also collect letters beginning Nov. 28.

Across the afternoon, families can take part in the WMHO Youth Corps scavenger hunt, watch the Legends & Spies Puppet Procession at 2:15 p.m., and catch a holiday dance performance from Roseland Dance Studio at 3 p.m.

WALK 97.5 will host music in Inner Court from 2-4 p.m., where the Steppin’ Out Ponies petting zoo will appear from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Carolers from Celestial Singers will stroll the village from 3-4 p.m. before performing at the Holiday Tree from 4-5 p.m. The Bethel AME Choir will take the stage at 5 p.m., leading into the tree lighting ceremony on the Village Green, where Santa will return on a festive float.

Visitors can also tour the Holiday Tree Festival and vote for their favorite decorated tree, Dec. 7-22.
