Stony Brook University Hospital lands high ranking on ‘Best Hospitals in U.S.’ list

|

Stony Brook University Hospital is a top medical facility in the U.S.

That’s what the U.S. News & World Report said in its 2020-21 ranking of the best hospitals in the states.

Stony Brook came in at No. 41 for neurology and neurosurgery, and No. 49 in orthopedics in the country.

Regionally, SBUH placed No. 10 in New York state, up from No. 11 in 2019. Together, there are over 200 hospitals in the Empire State.

“For more than 30 years, U.S. News & World Report has been helping patients, along with the help of their physicians, identify the Best Hospitals in an array of specialties, procedures and conditions,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “The hospitals that rise to the top of our rankings and ratings have deep medical expertise, and each has built a track record of delivering good outcomes for patients.”

To prepare its annual list, the U.S. News & World Report analyzes over 5,000 hospitals nationwide, comparing each’s specialties, procedures and conditions.

According to a press release, the methodologies include measuring objectives such as patient survival, rates of infection, and adequacy of nursing staff.
