NWS: Suffolk County could see up to 16 inches of snow accumulation

|

This storm watch story was last updated at 4:42 p.m. on Sunday.

Facing the likelihood of significant snowfall overnight, Sayville, Connetquot and Bayport-Blue Point school districts pulled the plug on Monday classes.

The cancellation of school came in wake of Brookhaven Town’s State of Emergency alert.

Earlier on Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for Suffolk County — as well as for Nassau County and New York City — predicting 6-16 inches of snow for the area.

Snowfall is expected to begin about midnight Sunday and drag deep into Tuesday.

Blizzard-like conditions are possible for Monday, from the morning hours into the evening, the weather service said, with wind gusts as high as 50 mph.

Travel is expected to be hazardous or impossible due to low visibility for tomorrow morning and evening commutes.

Sunday was a perfect day to lace up the skates on Greenes Lake, which straddles Sayville and Bayport.
Skaters with and without hockey sticks took to Greenes Park on Sunday, ahead of the incoming snowstorm expected to slam Long Island on Monday and Tuesday.

Below is additional information on the path of the incoming nor’easter.
