Suffolk Police rescue five men from sinking boat near Northport

Suffolk Police Marine Bureau officers rescued five men from a sinking boat in the Long Island Sound near Northport Tuesday night.

The men were fishing aboard a 17-foot vessel in waters adjacent to the Village of Asharoken when it began taking on water about 5:25 p.m. One of the boaters called 911 and told dispatchers the vessel was already half full of water.

Officers John Dreyer, Dave Froehlich and Jack Hardy responded aboard Marine Bravo. The cops pulled their vessel alongside the sinking boat and hauled all five men aboard the police boat.

None of the men were injured.

Officers then emptied the water from the disabled vessel and towed it to the Soundview Boat Ramp in Northport.
