Support passes $80,000 for ‘beacon of light’ dad from Ridge

Forever the entertainer.

Whether it was telling the perfect joke, performing a spot-on impersonation or demonstrating his athletic skills playing backyard Wiffle Ball, Joshua Lauckhardt never disappointed. He always left his friends and family smiling or laughing in stitches.

So, it’s no wonder that hundreds of donations have poured in from the community to assist the family of the Ridge father who, a friend announced on GoFundMe, has died unexpectedly.

Lauckhardt, 47, was a devoted husband and a father of two girls, aged 17 and 15, his friend William Feehan said on the GoFundMe page he established last week on behalf of Lauckhardt’s family. The effort had raised $83,000 at the time of publication of this article.

“He was a beacon of light in our lives,” Feehan wrote. “His infectious humor and genuine care for others touched everyone he met.”

A graduate of Shoreham-Wading River High School, Lauckhardt was a longtime steamfitter with Local 638.

Feehan noted how dependable Lauckhardt was to his family and friends, describing him as “the type of person that had your back and would always be there if he was needed.”

“Whether it was through his prowess on the whiffle ball field, his finesse in pickleball, or his playful yet competitive spirit in any backyard game, Josh brought joy and laughter wherever he went,” Feehan wrote. “Josh was also a gifted storyteller, joke teller, impressionist, and master of the perfect GIF. His stories never failed to have us all keeled over in laughter, and his GIFs always seemed to capture the perfect situation.

“He had a way of bringing people together with his wit and charm, making even the dullest moments feel lively and fun,” he added.
