Tasty Home deli opens in Shirley with fresh foods, family vibes

|

Tasty Home, a deli serving American and Hispanic fare, opened Dec. 28 in a Shirley space formerly occupied by a Dunkin’.

The deli, owned by Juan and Clelia Salinas, is located at 440 William Floyd Parkway and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, packed with freshly made options including waffles, pancakes, hot and cold sandwiches, fries, juice drinks, a salad bar and even ice cream. Hispanic options include healthy portions of beef and pork tacos, burritos, soups and rice and beans.

“There are no processed foods,” said Clelia Salinas, 28, who with her husband Juan, 31, live in Shirley with their four children. “It will be a nice place for the community, with good service,” Clelia said. Caricatures of the children adorn the main entrance window, emphasizing the family vibe,

The location has 12 total seats among three tables.

To celebrate the opening, Tasty Home, open every day between 5 a.m.-midnight Tuesdays to Sundays and 5 a.m.-11 p.m. on Mondays, is offering one free cup of coffee for customers who arrive between 5-6 a.m. for its first month. And kids were offered free scoops of ice cream on opening day.

Clelia said she was inspired to cook and eventually start the deli from “a love of the kitchen” she got from her mother and grandmother.

“I’m very happy,” she said on opening day, which saw a steady stream of customers buying everything from tacos to beef stew and chicken soup. “I’ve been working very hard for two years. This country gives a lot of opportunity for people who work hard.”
