An online fundraiser aiming to support both frontline healthcare workers and local businesses in Babylon Village just got a big boost.
This Tuesday, Teachers Federal Credit Union pledged $5,000 to members of the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce who are raising money to buy food and gift cards from local Babylon Village for Good Samaritan Hospital workers.
Teachers also donated $5,000 to similar initiatives in Patchogue, Port Jefferson, and Bay Shore.
“The priorities of our CEO [Brad Calhoun] are to really do three things during this pandemic: to support our people, our members, and our communities,” said Inna Sprague, Teachers’ chief experience officer.
Kelly Peckholdt, the head of the chamber of commerce, told GreaterBabylon she was “absolutely thrilled” when she heard of the incoming contribution to the chamber’s campaign.
Prior to the financial institution’s donation, the chamber raised $2,045 through a GoFundMe page. Also, other businesses gave to the cause, including Curl Evolution‘s owner who offered $5,000 worth of gift cards to her hair salon.
Starting next week, the chamber begins dropping off food and gift cards.
“We are so glad that we can give back to the community while simultaneously supporting our businesses during this time,” said Peckholdt, who also owns Positions Dance Studio, which is also donating gift cards to dance and yoga classes.
