The Walk for Beauty and the Hercules 10K all happens on Oct. 21

|

In 24 years, the annual “Walk For Beauty” in Stony Brook has raised nearly $1.5 million for Stony Brook Medicine’s breast cancer research and the Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s Unique Boutique for Wigs.

Now, the Ward Melville Heritage Organization — which runs the walk — wants to continue the fundraising effort in this year’s race.

The 4K/6K walk along downtown Stony Brook is planned for Sunday, Oct. 21.

There’s going to be a pet costume contest, with pink bandanas on sale to raise money for breast cancer.

“The route takes participants through historic Stony Brook,” Marie Gilberti said of the Ward Melville Heritage Organization. “A beautiful 15-acre arboretum and a scenic route past historic landmarks and homes which will be adorned with pink bows.”

The walk is held on the morning of the Hercules on the Harbor 10K, which is a timed race sanctioned by USA Track & Field.

Hercules on the Harbor — which also benefits Stony Brook Medicine — will be awarding the top three male and female racers, and awards for the top three male and female runners in the 5 year age groups.
