A bold new restaurant is getting ready to make some noise in Miller Place.
It’s called The BlackSheep, and it’s opening later this month at 465 Route 25A in the Park Ave. Plaza — the former home of Maggie’s Eatery.
“I wanted to create a spot that serves comfort food with a twist and new things that stand out,” said owner Jon Kopstein, a longtime restaurant worker who lives in Port Jefferson.
Kopstein, who was a sous chef at Maggie’s before it closed in April, is now taking the reins and launching his first restaurant.
How it happened
When Maggie’s Eatery shut its doors in mid-April, Kopstein saw a golden opportunity.
With years of experience in kitchens, catering halls and clubs across Long Island, he felt ready to step into ownership.
“So, it’s staying in the family,” he said with a smile.
Since taking over, Kopstein and his crew have completely redone the space — fresh paint, a redone countertop, and plans for something even more eye-catching.
He’s teaming up with the local community and school districts to showcase artwork inspired by the idea of a “black sheep.”
“I’ve been asking people to draw their interpretation of the black sheep—whether it’s the animal, an outcast, as long as it’s family friendly—and we can promote those local artists,” he said. “Here, individuality is embraced and celebrated.”
If you go
The BlackSheep is aiming for a late June opening. It will offer lunch and dinner service, plus weekend breakfast and brunch.
Kopstein said the menu will spotlight American fusion dishes with a creative flair—a mix of comfort and surprise.
Expect a cozy, welcoming nook with local flavor, art-covered walls, and a mission to make everyone feel like they belong.
