The Gateway is hosting its first ever drive-in gala

|

The Gateway in Bellport has something new up its sleeve.

With limitation due to COVID-19 restrictions, the South Shore playhouse is reinventing itself with its first-ever Drive-in Gala.

The event, which will serve as its 2020 fundraiser, will happen on two evenings, Sept. 25 and Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.

The gala is planned to be a celebration of The Gateway’s theatrical programming and education with a purpose to raise money for the future, as well as its scholarship programs and outreach efforts.

This summer, the performing arts center refocused their entertainment efforts, and created a drive-in movie theater, featuring a non-inflatable movie screen with six showings a week.

With that success, they took the same idea and adjusted the gala to maintain social distancing, while still having fun.

Welcoming patrons live at the gala will be Hollywood icon Isabella Rossellini, and The Gateway’s executive artistic director, Paul Allan.

It will also feature virtual appearances and performances by The Gateway and “All in the Family’s” Sally Struthers, Julia Macchio of “Flashdance,” Ralph Macchio of “The Karate Kid”, and Renee Taylor of “The Nanny.”

Presenting from The Gateway School for the Performing Arts, Associate artistic director, Michael Baker, will highlight success stories from the school and will feature performances from students virtually.

Tickets will be $75 per person and will also include a boxed dinner by Avinos Italian Table.
