The new Surgery Center hosts grand opening in Port Jefferson Station

|

Port Jefferson Station’s new ambulatory surgery center held a grand opening ceremony this past week.

During the party Wednesday, people were also able to tour the 16,000-square-foot facility while enjoying some food and music.

The Port Jefferson Surgery Center opened Jan. 9 and has been providing the North Shore with a convenient alternative to surgical experiences at area hospitals.

The center itself is owned through a partnership between 19 community surgeons, Mather Hosptial, and a surgery center management company called Pinnacle III.

With six operating rooms and a diverse staff, the center can handle procedures in orthopedics, ophthalmology, pain management, general surgery, neurosurgery and otolaryngology.

Since opening at 1500 Route 112, the physicians have seen a steady increase in appointments, they told us.

“Things are going really well,” said one of the founding partner’s, Dr. Michael Fracchia “The patients we have treated have really enjoyed coming here because of efficiency, it’s clean, it’s news, and the parking is easy.”

According to Fracchia, surgical costs can be kept lower to patients because there’s less overhead than a hospital.

“We don’t have to have the expensive things that a hospital has,” he explained. “We don’t have an emergency room, ICU, or MRIs.”
