The popular Chubs Meats butcher of Medford opening Ronkonkoma spot

|

This beloved Medford butcher shop is in expansion mode.

Chubs Meats, the popular butcher shop at 2598 Route 112, is opening a new location in Ronkonkoma this spring, the owner informed greaterpatchogue.com this week.

The new shop, located at 896 Johnson Ave., is taking over what was once Galeotafiore Italian pork store for nearly 50 years.

“I feel good about it,” said Chubs owner Ryan Jones. “We were looking to build in Sayville, but this happened to fall into my lap. We moved on it quick and it worked out pretty good.”

Jones, who is originally from Selden and now lives in Miller Place, said people across the island have urged Chubs Meats to add more locations — and now they are ready to deliver.

A little over a year ago, Jones decided to expand the Chubs brand by opening Chubs Burgers, Burritos, and Heroes Co. in Farmingville.

It became an instant hit.

“The response has been awesome,” Jones said. “Everyone has been very warm and very receptive to the idea. We got the greatest people in the world that shop with us.”

Jones said the new butcher shop and catering spot in Ronkonkoma is going to be very similar to the original location in Medford, but without giving too much away, Chubs Meats has “a couple little surprises” in store for customers, such as a dry-aging room for meat.

Chubs Meats has always been about serving quality meats and giving back to the surrounding communities. At the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Farmingville shop gave away 50 sandwiches a day to feed children in need.

As the business grows, Jones and his family hope to continue to help out in any way they can.

“I hope that we can continue to feed families every day and cater everyone’s events,” he said.
