Sayville native Jack Coan helped lead Wisconsin to an opening week 49-0 rout of South Florida on Friday in Tampa.
The junior quarterback completed 19 of 26 passes for 199 yards, tossing for two touchdowns and throwing no interceptions. Coan, a Sayville High School and youth football legend, was tabbed the Badgers first-string QB to start the season just a week ago.
The six-foot-3 signal caller paired with Heisman Trophy hopeful Jonathan Taylor twice for two first-half touchdowns; the second came with just two seconds remaining in the half.
At Sayville, Coan earned the Hansen Award as Suffolk County’s top player his senior year and was a three-time Boomer Esiason Award winner as Suffolk’s top quarterback.
Up next for Wisconsin, ranked No. 19 in the AP preseason poll, is a home contest against Central Michigan.
