Maybe people are getting sick and tired of their phones and streaming accounts.
Because this bookstore is thriving.
Barnes & Noble has announced that a new Huntington Station location is set to open this fall at 301 Walt Whitman Road, across from Walt Whitman Shops and in the same strip as Men’s Warehouse.
A company listing indicates the bookseller will be opening its doors this October.
“Just two years ago the nearest Barnes & Noble was over 50 miles from Bridgehampton,” James Daunt, the company’s CEO, stated last year after a new store opened in Bridgehampton in November. “With the opening of our Riverhead bookstore last year, we cut that down to 25 miles. Now it is our great pleasure to bring Bridgehampton a Barnes & Noble of their own.”
The recent and rapid expansion follows 15 year’s worth of of declining stores.
And a period during which the company’s chief rival, Borders, seized operations in 2011.
According to Barnes & Noble, the company opened more new bookstores in a single year (2022) than it had in the entire decade from 2009 to 2019.
The bookseller opened over 30 new bookstores in 2023 with plans to open more than 50 more by the end of 2024.
Barnes & Noble closed its much larger store, which was more in its traditional size and style, in East Northport early this year.
