What started in Huntington is now expanding across Long Island and Connecticut.
And on Wednesday, May 22, The Shed brought its all-day brunch and dinner, highlighted by comfort food favorites, to 685 Merrick Ave. in Westbury, fronting the brand-new Selby apartments by Beechwood Homes. Scroll down for all the details.
The specs
The restaurant is expansive, measuring a full 5,000 square feet in its dining room alone.
As with the existing locations in Huntington, Plainview and W. Sayville, it was designed for sunlight to pour in at all hours of the daytime, with room enough for 120 people to nosh at once. The bar scene is sleek, modern and beachy, with ample seating.
The Shed team describes the place as having a “rustic beach-chic ambiance that incorporates warm textured woods, pops of color and intriguing works of art.’
There’s even more to find outdoors.
“The Shed Westbury also has the most stunning outdoor dining space on the island, with on a custom designed bi-level, 1,800-square-foot patio that holds another 60 dining seats,” reads a press announcement. “It’s sure to be the place to be this summer!”
Meet the owner
This is owner John Tunney’s fourth Shed location, with another in the works at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, where he also owns and operates Ballo Italian Restaurant.
The Shed at Mohegan is currently listed as opening late summer.
Tunney launched The Shed brunch concept in Huntington in 2017; then later expanded it to West Sayville in 2019, followed by the Plainview location in 2021.
He also owns Besito Mexican restaurants, also with multiple Long Island locations, and The Farm Italy in Huntington, which last year was named among OpenTable’s top 100 restaurants in the U.S.
