Huntington is getting a new steakhouse — and ownership promises much more than your usual lineup of strips and filets, mash potatoes and creamed spinach.
The team behind Luca Italian in Stony Brook is looking to open Luca Steak at 417 New York Avenue in or around June.
It’s currently being built out in the space that Red last occupied before closing in September after some 25 years in the downtown.
Co-owner David Tunney says the goal is to offer something different from the traditional steakhouse experience—something smaller, and more focused on the details.
“We want it to feel personal,” Tunney told Greater Long Island. “Not corporate like some of the other well-known steakhouses on Long Island.”
The menu promises a global approach. Tunney says meat will be sourced from all around the world, some from cattle that are fed oranges to enhance a subtle citrus taste.
“Huntington has a great dining scene, but it’s missing an intimate, standout steakhouse option,” said Tunney. “We want to be just that and fill that void.”
The concept builds on the philosophy established at Luca in Stony Brook, which opened in 2022 and is known for its handmade pastas, seasonal dishes and a warm, personal dining experience.
“We are very focused on service — we take it very seriously, like we do at Luca Italian in Stony Brook,” Tunney said.
