The Village Idiot Pub in Lake Grove is officially closing its doors — but not before throwing one final bash.
Owner John Sarno confirmed to Greater Long Island that the pub’s last day will be Sunday, July 20. To thank their loyal customers, the team is throwing a farewell bash with drinks at half price all day Friday.
“This is more of a customer appreciation,” Sarno said.
What’s next

Taking its place is a brand-new restaurant and bar called Rockefellers Kitchen & Cocktails, which is expected to debut in early September.
The Lake Grove space, located at 2811 Middle Country Road, is undergoing a complete overhaul.
“It’s going to be a full service restaurant with reasonable prices and generous portions. Something for everyone,” Sarno said. “New vibe, new look.”
The major revamp will feature refurbished décor and a Gatsby-style aesthetic, designed to host events and private parties with a vintage flair.
“Just a cool vibe capturing an era of years ago,” said Sarno. “Drink program will focus on martinis and delicious cocktails. We will still have specials for sports events.”
A quick history
The Lake Grove pub opened in a 5,500-square-foot building that once housed Big Barry’s Steakhouse — a rowdy but beloved 1980s-era hangout known for cowboy boot mugs and its legendary Shotgun Blast drink.
When Sarno opened Village Idiot Lake Grove in 2019, the goal was to revive the nostalgic charm of a building he fondly remembered from his youth.
Now, the space will enter its next chapter — and Sarno says he’s excited to share more details soon.
