The water taxi returns to Patchogue River for Memorial Day weekend

|

The water taxi is coming back to Patchogue for the unofficial start of summer.

After a successful trial run on Cinco de Mayo, Fire Island Water Taxi is sending a 30-passenger vessel back to the river this coming Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.

The boat will be making rounds on Saturday from 4 p.m. to midnight, and on Sunday from 2 p.m. 10 p.m., according to John Sarno of the Patchogue Riverfront Committee.

The stops include Drift 82, Dublin Deck, Off Key Tikki and Harbor Crab Co.

It will be $5 for one ride or $10 for all-day access. The boat will be showing up to each location every 45 minutes, about.

“It’s still only one boat so you might encounter occasional delays. Understandably, it’s a busy weekend and they do need boats for Fire Island,” Sarno, a co-owner at Drift 82, told GreaterPatchogue Tuesday.

There will be two water taxis operating during each Thursday of the Alive on the River series that’s launching this summer. Click here for prior Alive on the River coverage.

And for all those looking to restaurant-hop this weekend, on the river or off, there’s also the brand-new Qwik Ride cart service. The company will be running five carts all weekend to help get people around the village.

Qwik Ride works similarly to ride sharing services like Uber and Lyft, in the sense you can download the app and order and track your ride. But it’s free; you’re just asked to tip your driver.

Sarno recommends downloading and familiarizing the app ahead of time.

The riverfront committee is affiliated with Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce and includes representatives from the restaurants, marinas and other businesses that operate on the river.
