They’re looking for explorers in Bellport Village

|

At the end of last year’s month-long Kids Camp in Bellport Village, a village trustee distributed surveys to the children and parents, seeking feedback and suggestions.

There was one demand that was overwhelming, said the Bellport Village clerk and manager, John Kocay.

More camp.

“The camp runs for about four weeks in July and is more sports-oriented,” said Kocay. “So we thought it could be a good move to extend the camp but move it toward more exploration. We have so many resources right here in our backyard.”

So Camp Explore was born.

Though its itinerary isn’t fully hammered out, Camp Explore will be offered to children in kindergarten through seventh grade and run for two weeks, from Aug. 3 through Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The fee is $150 for residents and $190 for non-residents.

This is the first year the village is running the camp, and as of this week Kocay said the village still has empty slots.

The camp’s emphasis will be on creativity and problem-solving activities, supported by local trips to places like the village beaches and the Blacksmith Shop on the Bellport-Brookhaven Historical Society Museum Complex.

Anyone interested — again, village residents and non-residents alike — should call (631) 286-0327.
