This Centereach family turned their love for PJs into a tradition of helping others during the holidays

This Centereach family takes pride in helping those in need during the holiday season.

Patricia Poggi and her three sons Edward, Jeremy, and Patrick started holiday pajama drive over a decade ago. They call it EJ’s PJ’s; Poggi named it after her sons.

Pajamas are a big thing for the Poggi family. Each year, it’s family tradition for them to wear their “Poggi Plaid Pajamas” for Christmas. They took their love for cozy pajamas and wanted to give to the less fortunate.

The Poggis got to collecting in 2011.

“We started with 30 or 40 pajamas [that year],” said Poggi, who 12 years ago was inspired to help others after her life-changing weight-loss transformation. She lost over 100 pounds after struggling with her weight for years.

The pajama drive has grown ever since into a yearly tradition.

According to EJ’s PJ’s, they collected over 1,000 pajamas last year.

The family has teamed with the Town of Brookhaven to help bring in even more PJs.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, the group will hosting a collection drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the New Village Community Center in Centereach. Santa will also be on hand at this event for photos with with kiddos.

They are asking you to bring a pair of new pajamas in any size.
