When it comes to the measure of a man, talk about a juxtaposition here.
On the one hand, you have war hero, Medal of Honor recipient and Navy SEAL, Lt. Michael P. Murphy, who gave his life to save others in combat.
On the other hand, you have three masked males who vandalized a park named in his honor.
But Brookhaven Town officials are determined to find the three vandals — described as in their late teens or early 20s — responsible for defacing a building and security camera at Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Park in Lake Ronkonkoma on Sept. 2.
They released surveillance photos today.
The incident occurred sometime after 8 p.m. The suspects drove a dark colored sedan, unknown make and model. Anyone with information should call SCPD 4th Precinct Crime Control Section Officer Eustache at 631-854-8400.
Lt. Murphy, from Patchogue, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor after losing his life protecting fellow SEALS during an intense firefight in Afghanistan in 2005.
The town’s memorial park was dedicated in his name in January 2019.
