Tony’s on the Boulevard restaurant in Sound Beach closes

|

Sound Beach residents are coping these days with one less option for dining out.

That’s because Tony’s on the Boulevard is, at least for now, signing off. A handwritten sign on the front door of the Italian restaurant reads, “Closed Until Further Notice.” Further, telephone service at the eatery appears to have been shut down, as well as online ordering.

The “closed” sign has been taped on the glass door for the last week. Greater Long Island has reached out to ownership via social media for comment, but has not heard back.

Tony’s on the Boulevard opened two years ago at 175 Sound Beach Blvd. to rave reviews from diners.

And as recently as two weeks ago, Kyle M. posted this Google review, full of praise for the restaurant that replaced Sound Beach Diner:

“Tony’s pizza dough is like eating a cloud. Pizza and sauce are very light, cheese is high quality,” he wrote. “Will go out of my way to eat here. Much better than your standard NY slice. Also an awesome family business, super nice people and homemade desserts.”

Back around the time it opened, Jesse Michaelson noted how “much better and different” Tony’s pizza is “from the other pizzerias nearby.”

“You walk in and see a small version of Italy,” he wrote in his Google review. “The atmosphere is wonderful, plenty of tables, and the world’s nicest Italian man behind the counter. We ordered a well done regular pie, and it was absolutely spectacular!!”

This is a developing story. Please check back with Greater Port Jeff and Greater Long Island for updates.
