No. 2: Controversy over the William Floyd statue
The second most-read article of 2020 on GreaterMoriches was about a petition to remove the statue of William Floyd at the corner of William Floyd Parkway and Montauk Highway in Shirley. A heated debate took place in the Tri-Hamlet area over the signer of the Declaration of Independence since he was also a slave owner. The statue stands.
