The Beach Blast is typically the big sendoff to end the summer in the Town of Babylon.
This year the popular firework show at Overlook Beach was in question of happening due to the pandemic.
But, as Suffolk County, and the rest of New York, continue to see low infection rates numbers town, Babylon’s town officials agreed that the show will go on for 2020.
The Beach Blast will happen Saturday, Aug. 15, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. As usual, this is for town residents only, you must have a beach sticker to enter.
Leading up to the firework display, there will be live music by the Strawberry Fields, a Beatles tribute band.
“With COVID-19 still present as a threat in our community, we knew that this summer was going to be different,” said Babylon Town Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez. “Thanks to the hard work of our Parks and Recreation Department staff, we were able to come up with a safe plan to include two of the Beach Blast’s most popular elements — live music and fireworks.”
Here are restrictions to adhere to social distancing protocols:
- There will be no other events during the day
- Groups gathered on the beach must be 10 people or less
- Social distance must be kept between groups
- No tents are permitted
- Face coverings must be worn when moving through the facility
