Town of Brookhaven to offer free support, education classes for young residents

The Town of Brookhaven is offering free support and educational workshops to its residents between the ages 14 and 21 years old.

Throughout the month of October, there will four different types of classes available, according to the town.

  • Stress Management – Learn to examine your thoughts about your stressors and gain techniques to the stressors experienced in a typical day. This group is for ages 15 to 18 years old and will be held on Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Anger Management – Examine the triggers of anger, learn to change how you look at situations and develop healthy ways to express anger and frustration. This group is for ages 14 to 21 years old and will be held Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Girl’s Support Group – Learn to express thoughts, feelings, and needs in positive ways. Resolve problems and conflicts through healthy communication skills. Discuss current trends and stressors. This group is for 12 to 16 years old and will be held on Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Parenting Workshops – Come discuss the challenge of parenting teens in these ever-changing times. Learn more about the adolescent mind and how it affects their behavior. This group will be held on October 1, 15, 22 and 29 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“All these groups and workshops will be held by the Youth Bureau on the second floor of Brookhaven Town,” said a Brookhaven Town spokesperson.

Town Hall is located at 1 Independence Hill in Farmingville.
