Former President Donald Trump is coming to the Hamptons on Friday to attend a high-end fundraiser for his presidential campaign against Vice President Kamala Harris, according to multiple reports.
And local police told Greater Long Island they anticipate heavy gridlock across the South Fork.
The Republican nominee is the guest of honor at an Aug. 2 dinner hosted by Cantor Fitzgerald LP Chief Executive Officer Howard Lutnick, Bloomberg News reported. Co-hosts include former hedge fund manager John Paulson and Omeed Malik, the founder and CEO of 1789, a financial services and investment firm.
Trump’s visit will very likely cause a traffic nightmare in the Hamptons, where many streets are already choked to a standstill on a typical summer Friday.
Southampton Town Police issued a traffic warning for across the Hamptons. The police advised there will be rolling road closures and “heavy gridlock” throughout the afternoon and evening in West Hampton, Hampton Bays, Southampton, Shinnecock Hills, North Sea, Watermill and Bridgehampton, as the ex-president’s motorcade marches from Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach to Bridgehampton.
Guests at the dinner are being asked to pay $25,000 to attend, $50,000 for a photo with Trump, and $250,000 for a seat at the table with the presidential candidate, Bloomberg reported. One-hundred guests are expected to attend, with the hopes of raising over $10 million for Trump and his effort to defeat Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
Lutnick, the event’s host, recently introduced Trump’s running mate Ohio Senator J.D. Vance at a rally in Minnesota.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro — rumored to be among the top contenders to be Harris’ running mate — was expected to attend a meet-and-greet in the Hamptons on Friday with top Democratic party donors. But today he canceled his visit to the Water Mill home of public relations executive Mike Kempner, according to multiple reports.
