Two Port Jeff H.S. football teammates earned All-State honors

|

This Port Jefferson quarterback-wide receiver tandem brought fear to many Long Island high school defenses this season.

And because of it, these two Royals have been awarded for their athletic feats.

Signal-caller Sam Florio and pass catcher Aidan Kaminska, both seniors, each earned All-State football honors from the New York State Sportswriters Association, GreaterPortJeff learned.

Aiden, who collected a school-record 62 receptions for 1,078 yards and 14 touchdowns, was named second-team All-State. His teammate, Sam, earned an honorable mention after throwing for 841 yards, rushing for 601 more, while piling up 20 total touchdowns.

“These are two of the most dynamic players to ever come through Port Jefferson football,” said Royals coach Andrew Cosci.

While the team finished this year with a 3-6 mark, there were a flurry of special moments thanks to these athletes. One record-breaking performance happened on Sept. 28 against Mount Sinai High School where Aiden had 17 catches — that became the second-most receptions ever recorded in a New York state public high school game.

After this year, Aiden committed to play lacrosse a the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Sam plans to continue his football career in college.

“Both athletes have been important players for this program and will be hard to replace,” said Cosci.
