Police arrested and two 16-year-old boys on Sunday after the youths crashed a stolen car into a home in Mastic Beach, cops said.
Seventh Precinct officers in an unmarked police vehicle spotted a stolen 2014 Kia Optima at Mastic Road and Patchogue Avenue about 4:30 p.m., according to Suffolk County police.
When marked patrol units arrived, the driver of the Kia — which had been swiped earlier Sunday — fled before officers could stop it, police said. Minutes later, the vehicle crashed into a house at 196 Washington Ave.
Authorities said the driver tried to run away but was caught nearby, while the passenger remained inside the car. Both teens were taken to NYU Langone Hospital–Suffolk in Patchogue (formerly Brookhaven Hospital) with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Cops charged both teens with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Their names were not released because of their ages.
They were issued field appearance tickets and are scheduled to be arraigned in the Youth Part of First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
