UFC announced its first fight card at the new UBS Arena in Elmont. Scheduled for July 16, the UFC Fight Night card’s main event is a featherweight match between Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez.
The last time UFC held an event on Long Island was back in July 2017 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The night saw Baldwin native Chris Weidman defeat Kelvin Gastelum by submission in Long Island’s first-ever UFC event.
Ortega is 15-2 in MMA matches and 7-2 in UFC fights. “El Pantera” Rodriguez is 13-3 as an MMA fighter and 8-2 in UFC contests.
Ten other matches are on the card. The event is set to be televised on ESPN.
