Ugly Sweater bar crawl coming to Patchogue this Thursday

|

It’s time to grab the ugliest sweater in your closet and put it to good use.

On Thursday, Dec. 26, five bars in Patchogue Village will be participating in the Patchogue Ugly Sweater Bar Crawl. Starting at 7 p.m. at the Tap Room, crawlers are asked to wear their most festive sweaters and join the group as they make their way downtown.

Presented by the Patchogue Chamber of Commerce and its restaurant committee, the event aims to be a fun night where people can unwind after the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

“Christmas is all about the family, and in other countries, the day after Christmas is a day where the community gets together,” said David Kennedy, executive director of the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce. “I think we’re following that example to spend that day with friends and having a good time.”

Tickets are available for $10 in advance or $15 at the door. All proceeds benefit Angles of Long Island, a Patchogue-based community thrift store and outreach group.

Angels of Long Island founder Debbie Loesch said that this event is a true Christmas gift, since she just found out that proceeds would go to her organization.

“I’m so shocked,” she said. “We’re so grateful that the chamber thought of us and we’re excited to be a part of it… we do a lot for the community and it’s really nice to be recognized during the holidays.”

Every year, the restaurant committee donates the funds to a different group. This year, Kennedy suggested they donate to the local angels. “They stand out as a premier organization that helps the Patchogue community and we wanted to give back,” he said.

Throughout the event, crawlers will receive complimentary New Belgium beer from the brewery and giveaways, along with $4 Fireball shots.

Check-in starts at 7 p.m. where bracelets will be given out. The crawl will then go to That Meetball Place, The Village Idiot, PeraBell and lastly, Fulton’s Gate.

“A lot of people are off this week,” said Jayme Bonnano, owner of the Tap Room. “So to celebrate the holidays, come down and enjoy a fun night.”
