Value Outlets to open first-ever store on Long Island, plans 20 locations

|

“We’re like T.J. Maxx and Marshalls — but 50 to 75 percent cheaper.”

That’s how Value Outlets manager Bobby Singh describes a new discount retail concept coming soon to Route 110 in East Farmingdale.

Long Islanders looking for bargain-priced clothes, housewares, toys and more will soon have another option when Value Outlets opens its first store at 1821 Broadhollow Road, in the former Ashley Furniture building.

“We’re looking at anywhere from 20,000 to 50,000 different items in the store at any given time,” Singh told Greater Long Island. “Most of it will be new, branded merchandise, but we’ll also have some donated items — a thrifted component.”

According to Singh, the inventory will largely come from closeouts and returns from major department stores across the country.

“We’re getting all the closeouts and returns from all the major department stores nationwide,” he said.

While Value Outlets isn’t yet a household name, Singh says the goal is to make it one. The first location is expected to open in early January, with a second store — less than a mile away on Price Parkway in the former Montauk Rug & Carpet building — slated to open by the end of the month.

“The plan right now is to open 20 stores,” Singh said. “But we want to see how these first two do.”

Singh said the decision to enter the discount retail space was driven largely by the current economy.

“We’ve been in the sneaker business since 1961, and we can see what’s happening,” he said. “We realized this is where we needed to be.”

Value Outlets will be open seven days a week, from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.
