Vegan and gluten-free pop-up restaurant now at Jack Jack’s Coffee Shop once a month

|

Heidi’s Health Kitchen has teamed up with Jack Jack’s Coffee Shop in Babylon to run its vegan and gluten-free pop-up restaurant once per month at 223 Deer Park Ave.

Heidi’s Health Kitchen was formed in June of 2014 by co-founder’s Ivan Raj, of Brentwood, and Heidi Tompkins, of Babylon, with the hopes of providing high-quality, organic foods.

“We wanted to reach out to the community with plant-based and gluten-free foods,” Raj said. “And we want to make it as healthy as possible.”

The organization offers catering, cooking classes, demonstrations and seminars for healthy eating, according to its website.

Raj and Tompkins approached Jack Jack’s and has been using its store as a pop-up since March.

“We have a really good relationship [with Jack Jack’s],” Raj said.

Now, once a month you can buy tickets online for reservations at Jack Jack’s. The next date is July 30, from 5:30 p.m to 7 p.m.

Heidi’s Health Kitchen has a three-course prix-fixe menu for $35.99, with either an American cuisine or an Indian food option.

Here are the different choices:

 American

  • Organic raw mock tuna lettuce wrap with ginger sauce.
  • Organic raw green papaya salad.
  • Choice of either raw blueberry-acai ice cream or raspberry mint sorbet.

Indian

  • Savory curried plantain fry.
  • Organic un-fish biriyani.
  • Choice of either raw blueberry-acai ice cream or raspberry mint sorbet.

The response to the pop-up shop’s food has been great, Raj said.

Going forward, Heidi’s Health Kitchen is looking to continue to expand.

“We would like to ramp it up to two days a month at Jack Jack’s,” Raj said.

They are also considering more locations to serve their vegan and gluten-free foods.
