The new and improved Primi Italian Steakhouse is here.

The popular West Islip restaurant, founded in 2016 by restaurateur and Brightwaters native Frank Bono, closed this past summer for an extensive makeover.

“Literally every square inch was touched,” Bono told Greater Long Island during a recent tour of the renovated space.

The South Shore gem closed in June and reopened three months later, with a complete renovation. Bono said it was a long time coming.

“We wanted to do something fresh and exciting,” he said. “We did it with our guests in mind. There’s a lot of details. Everywhere you look, there’s something new.”

Some of the new additions include a fresh new bar, light fixtures, custom furniture, and an updated second-floor dining area with a piano. The restaurant now offers a jazz trio playing every night.

“It really enhances the dining experience,” Bono said of the new live music.

During the 90-day closure, Primi took the time to reset and add training programs for the staff.

“From a service standpoint, food quality, and visually, [Primi’s] never been better,” said Bono.

Bono, who officially purchased the property at 999 Montauk Highway last year, said he isn’t done with upgrades. He said plans are in motion to renovate the outside patio this spring. They are also working on adding a new brunch menu soon.
