Watch Bellport’s Shannon Gibbons impress all three ‘American Idol’ judges

|

Bellport singer Shannon Gibbons is heading to Hollywood.

The 20-year-old walked into the audition room for “American Idol” and stunned celebrity judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan with her performance of “I Rather Go Blind” by Etta James.

People watched her sing on Sunday when her audition was live on ABC.

“This is why I keep coming back to this show,” Perry, a 13-time Grammy Award winner, told Gibbons after she finished her song.

The other judges agreed, sending Gibbons to the next round of the competition in Hollywood, Calif.

The three also agreed to create the “Shannon Standard,” an agreement that musicians must be as talented as Gibbons to advance in the TV contest.

Gibbons, who spoke with GreaterPatchogue before the show aired, said it was a dream come true.

“When you have three decorated artists like that in front of you, it really is surreal,” Gibbons previously told us

There were as also lot of emotions leading up to her song, where Gibbons spoke openly to “American Idol” about her battle with depression.
